The city of Johannesburg will host various events to commemorate Africa Day, which is often celebrated with arts and culture activities all over the African continent.
Wits School of Arts Africa Day celebration
Celebrate Africa Day at the Wits School of Arts.
The university is hosting a concert and workshop at its Wits Chris Seabrooke Music Hall.
The celebration will include a recital and workshop by a renowned African musician and Professor of African Music, Dizu Mzikantu Plaatjies.
Professor Plaatjies is also the founder of the South African group, AmaMpondo.
The event is free to the public and it takes place from 11:00.
Hey Hillbrow! Come Out To Play—The Streets Are Calling
Prepare for fun, laughter and great music this Africa Day.
The Windybrow Arts Centre, a division of The Market Theatre Foundation, brings its sixth iteration of its annual parade, Hey Hillbrow! Let’s Dlala!
Hundreds of Gauteng residents will parade through the streets of Hillbrow.
The fun event allows the inner city communities a chance to experience amazing performances right on their streets.
It is an initiative that fosters a sense of community as the locals celebrate with music, colourful visuals and a few surprises along the way.
Artists such as the Thamsanqa Vuthela Band, Mozambique’s The Dizzy Brains, and Styles Da Deejay of The Creators Room will perform at the parade.
The event starts at 10am from The Windybrow Arts Centre.
The 11th Edition of Africa Day Celebration at Freedom Park
The National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is hosting their own Africa Day celebration once again.
The event will take place at Freedom Park under the theme, 'Building the Africa We Want through Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability'.
The event will feature music and entertainment. It starts at 8am.
