Johannesburg is set to receive an exciting expansion of flights, further connecting the City of Gold to destinations across the African continent and beyond.

On Thursday, Airlink announced that, starting in February 2026, passengers from Nacala, Mozambique, will have a new and convenient option to fly to Johannesburg.

The privately owned regional airline currently runs 64 return flights a week to Mozambique, serving Maputo, Beira, Pemba, Nampula, Tete, and Vilanculos. The addition of Nacala marks another strategic step in Airlink’s ongoing regional expansion.

“By adding Nacala to our network, Airlink can provide additional vital connectivity for business and leisure travellers to and from Mozambique’s economically important north-eastern region, complementing our current services to Nampula,” said  Airlink CEO, de Villiers Engelbrecht.

The new flights from Nacala will operate on Mondays and Fridays at 13:45, arriving in Johannesburg at 16:35.

Johannesburg is home to two world-class international airports: OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park and Lanseria International Airport, both offering top-tier facilities and serving as major gateways to South Africa. Airlink flies from OR Tambo to multiple destinations in Mozambique. Currently, the airline operates 64 return flights a week to Mozambique, serving Maputo, Beira, Pemba, Nampula, Tete and Vilanculos.

This new service follows a series of recent announcements by Airlink. Earlier this week, the airline revealed its upcoming Johannesburg–Zanzibar route, set to launch in June 2026. Read more about it here.

In July 2025, Airlink also added an extra daily flight between Johannesburg and Walvis Bay, Namibia, in response to growing travel demand.

"This is a second daily flight that Airlink introduced on the 4th of July 2025 in response to increased demand for travel on the route," said Airlink's Public Relations officer, Linden Birns.

With these ongoing expansions, Airlink continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional air connectivity and boosting tourism between Southern African destinations.
