Hey bookworm, this event is giving relaxed, present, and fully immersed in a good book vibes!

Nothing quite beats the feeling of holding a good book in your hands and taking in every word written in ink and paper, especially when you’re away from the noise of the city and everyday distractions.
That’s exactly what the Jozi Silent Book Club aims to create. For some time now, the club has been hosting events across Johannesburg, bringing together book lovers from different walks of life to simply enjoy reading in a shared, peaceful space. Unlike traditional book clubs, there’s no assigned reading, no pressure to analyse, and no obligation to share insights. Instead, it’s a relaxed experience focused on enjoying the journey each book takes you on - individually, yet in the company of others who share a love for literature.
This time around, the Jozi Silent Book Club has chosen Gautrain as the 'venue' to offer a unique reading experience on the move.
On 18 April, book lovers will embark on a one-of-a-kind reading adventure. The event begins at Marlboro Station in Johannesburg, where attendees will board the train and spend 30 minutes reading as they travel in comfort.
The journey continues to Hatfield in Pretoria, where participants can step off and enjoy a break. Here, there will be an opportunity to grab a meal, enjoy a cup of coffee, or explore nearby cafés and restaurants, all while keeping a book close at hand.
After the break, attendees will board the train once more for the return trip, spending another hour immersed in their books before arriving back at Marlboro Station.
Adding to the convenience, Gautrain is currently running a R1 parking special, making it easier and more affordable for those who choose to drive to the station and park their cars securely.
This initiative is more than just a reading event - it’s a celebration of reading culture in Johannesburg. It offers a refreshing way to disconnect from daily distractions, connect with fellow book lovers, and rediscover the simple joy of reading.
Whether you’re looking to meet new people or simply want a quiet space to enjoy your book, this pressure-free experience caters to both. Talk if you want to, or simply read in peace - the choice is entirely yours.
