Once-bustling Braamfontein Metro Centre might soon return to its former glory or even surpass it.

The Metro Centre is getting a much-needed revamp after months of closure due to the shocking state of the infrastructure.

The City of Johannesburg announced over the weekend that Braam's Metro Centre will undergo a the three-phase refurbishment project.

Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero said: "We are working closely with National Treasury to implement this project as part of the City's Office Space Optimisation Programme".

“The goal is to reduce our reliance on the private sector for office space, which will lead to long-term savings for the City and improved service delivery for residents."

The changes will see Braam’s metro city transforming into a “ modern, fit-for-purpose facility that meets the needs of the city's administration.”

Braamfontein is currently an entertainment hub that has art galleries, top-of-the-range hotels, restaurants and clubs.
