K-pop fever might be about to hit Johannesburg. Big Concerts, one of the country’s leading promoters, has set local fans alight after posting an image of BTS — the global superstars behind hits like Dynamite and Butter — with the caption: “Mzansi ARMY, what do you think? Should BTS light up South Africa with a live show?”

Cue chaos. Within minutes, timelines were buzzing with theories, wish lists, and full-on manifesting, because let’s be honest, if BTS did announce a stop in South Africa, it would be nothing short of historic. It would mark The Bangtan Boys' first-ever live performance in South Africa and one of the biggest K-pop concerts the country has ever hosted. Imagine FNB Stadium-sized sing-alongs, oceans of light sticks, and an ARMY turnout that could rival any global city.

Of course, nothing’s official (yet), but the fact that Big Concerts is even floating the idea has fans convinced that something might be brewing. And judging by the response online, Jozi is more than ready to swap “Dlala Ka Yona” for “Dynamite” at full volume. For now, fans will have to watch Big Concerts’ channels closely for updates.

What to know if BTS comes to South Africa

The venues
If BTS were to perform in South Africa, the obvious choices would be FNB Stadium in Johannesburg (capacity: 94,000) or DHL Stadium in Cape Town (capacity: 55,000). Both have hosted international mega-acts like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Bieber, and BTS could easily sell them out.

Past record-breaking tours
BTS’s Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour sold out stadiums across North America, Europe, and Asia, often in minutes. They’ve performed at Wembley, the Rose Bowl, and Seoul Olympic Stadium,  so a Jozi or Cape Town show would put South Africa in great company.

The ARMY effect
Where BTS goes, ARMY follows, expect thousands of fans queuing overnight, oceans of purple outfits, and the glow of ARMY Bomb light sticks lighting up the night sky. Social media will be flooded with fancams, TikToks, and hashtags trending globally.

The setlist
From Dynamite and Butter to IDOL and Yet to Come, BTS shows are a mix of global chart-toppers, fan favourites, and high-energy choreography that keeps stadiums on their feet from start to finish.

The vibe
A BTS concert isn’t just a show, it’s a full-scale cultural moment. Think fireworks, confetti, perfectly synchronised visuals, and a shared sense of joy transcending language. If they land in Mzansi, it’s set to be one of the most unforgettable nights in South Africa’s live music history.

From stadium-sized pop spectacles to intimate R&B nights, Johannesburg’s music scene is buzzing. Check out our guide to the best festivals and live music events in the city this season.
