Johannesburg Zoo will host a three-day programme designed to place wildlife protection at the forefront.

The City of Johannesburg continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental preservation, with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo announcing its participation in the global Reverse the Red movement. The initiative is described as a worldwide call to action, inspiring strategic conservation efforts and optimism to secure the future of threatened wildlife.
As part of the campaign, the Johannesburg Zoo will host a three-day programme from 6 to 8 February, partnering with local schools, universities, conservation organisations and members of the public. The event promises to be both educational and family-friendly, offering interactive activities that highlight the importance of protecting vulnerable species.
On Friday, 6 February, the zoo will engage with around 300 school learners through hands-on activities centred on Reverse the Red themes. Learners will take part in guided tours, interactive conservation storytelling, and educational displays. The programme, which begins at 9:30 am and runs into the afternoon, will also feature conservation exhibitions and industrial theatre performances.
Saturday, 7 February, will be dedicated to conservation collaboration, with displays in animal sections and knowledge sharing led by
partner organisations, highlighting the role of partnerships in safeguarding wildlife.
The final day, Sunday, 8 February, will see the zoo transform into a hub of family fun with a run or walk through its grounds from 7 am to midday. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities designed to promote awareness about threatened species while encouraging residents to play an active role in conservation.
The city is a beloved destination for visitors from across the globe and is widely recognised for its dedication to environmental sustainability. Home to one of its major tourist attractions, the Johannesburg Zoo, where visitors can view the Big Five amongst other species, the city continues to invest in initiatives that prioritise animal welfare.
By supporting programmes such as Reverse the Red, Johannesburg reinforces its commitment not only to its residents but to every living creature within its boundaries.
