As the season shifts and Joburgers emerge from winter hibernation, the Sunset Music Series at Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden is back, offering the perfect blend of live music, nature, and golden-hour vibes. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Witpoortjie Waterfall, this series transforms the garden into an open-air concert venue, featuring some of South Africa’s top musical talents.

The series kicks off Sunday, 14 September 2025, with a hometown celebration you won’t want to miss. Legendary Mango Groove returns for their first major Joburg show in five years, bringing nostalgic hits, heartfelt stories, dazzling visuals, and a few special surprises. Joining them on stage are Ross Learmonth and Majozi, promising an unforgettable kickoff to the season.

Next up, Saturday, 11 October, sees the soulful trio Mi Casa bring their unmistakable blend of house, jazzy trumpet riffs, and infectious grooves to the gardens. It’s the perfect summer outing for anyone looking to dance, relax, and soak up the sun with friends.

The series then turns into a jazz and R&B picnic festival on Saturday, 25 October with …And Beyond!. Curated by broadcaster Nothemba Madumo of 4Ever Jazz, this show features Zoë Modiga, Jaziel Brothers, Paul Hanmer & McCoy Mrubata, and Rorisang Sechele, offering an intimate outdoor experience filled with soulful melodies and smooth rhythms.

Finally, the series wraps up on Sunday, 26 October, with a high-energy finale featuring Afrikaans favourites Kurt Darren, stadium-rockers Spoegwolf, and rising star Aya Nixon. Whether you’re a fan of pop, rock, jazz, or R&B, the closing weekend promises something for everyone.

Gates open at 12:00 PM for all shows, giving you plenty of time to explore the gardens, find a good spot on the lawns, and soak in the scenery before the music kicks off. Pack a picnic blanket, sunscreen, and a hat, and leave the cooler boxes and gazebos at home—the gardens’ vendors have drinks and food covered. Children under 5 enter free, making it a great outing for the whole family. Tickets from R295 at Webtickets.
