On Monday, June 16, South Africa will commemorate Youth Day.
Every year on that date, the country remembers and honours the youth of 1976 who laid down their lives for the sake of the freedom of others.
The Soweto Uprising, which occurred on June 16, 1976, was a student-led protest which led to the death of hundreds of young people and marked a turning point in the history of South Africa. This year marks the 47th anniversary.
The City of Joburg has a line-up of exciting events to celebrate the day.
The event is happening in Soweto, at the Dube Boxing Club, starting at 7am until late.
It will start with a 5KM walk followed by a variety of sporting activities including boxing, tennis and aerobics.
Attendees will be entertained with drama, fashion, design arts and crafts.
The event will feature live performances from surprise artists.
There will be plenty of food for sale.
So, be there or be square.
