Spring has finally made itself at home in Joburg, bringing longer days, warmer afternoons, and the first real hint of the season’s energy. With temperatures climbing into the high 20s and a breeze still in the air, the city is starting to feel alive again.

And while the temps will only keep climbing as the season unfolds, Joburgers don’t have to wait for the first rains to cool off. Whether you’re the type to dip a toe cautiously or cannonball straight in, the city’s public swimming pools are officially open, ready to make spring weekends a whole lot more refreshing.

The City of Johannesburg officially launched the 2025/26 public swimming season. Starting 1 September, 32 pools are open to the public and will remain operational through the end of March 2026. And no – this doesn’t involve a plunge into Randburg’s notorious 'Jozi Jacuzzi'.

  • Pack smart: Bring a chic towel, sunhat, sunscreen, and a light picnic or sparkling water.
  • Bring cash: Pools only accept cash for entry fees.
  • Explore and switch it up: Try a different pool each weekend to discover new vibes and atmospheres.
  • Stay active: Use lap lanes or join a water aerobics session for a workout with a view. The Linden Pool is heated, so you can still enjoy your swims even when there is a spring chill.
  • Make it a mini outing: Pair your swim with a stop at a nearby café for a smoothie, cold brew, or flat white.

 General Rules:

  • No pushing or running around the pool
  • Alcohol and narcotics are strictly prohibited
  • No glass items in or around the pool

The city’s public pools will be open Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and on weekends from 9 am to 5 pm. During school holidays, they’ll also open on Mondays and public holidays from 9 am to 5 pm, while regular Mondays remain closed. Entry starts at just R7 for children and R21 for adults, making a refreshing dip both accessible and affordable.
