With Yorkshire having the highest concentration of breweries per head in the country, it's safe to say the people of Leeds appreciate a good pint. But do you reckon you could make one too?

Leeds craft beer bar Black Swan has recently launched a new Home Brew Competition in an attempt to find the UK's best home brewing talent, the winner of which will feature during the Oktoberfest beer festival.

In order for your own home brew creation to be considered, contestants need to register by August 23 and be able to submit three 500ml bottles of their beer by August 27. The aim being to brew an English beer inspired by German styles, with an ABV between 4% and 5.5%.

The beers will be judged by a number of figures in the local craft beer scene, including Ilkley Brewery and Half Full Brewery founder Luke Raven, Cody Barton from Tall Boys Beer Market and Stuart Pearson from James Clay, the independent beer distributors.

What's in it for the winners? Along with the chance to brew their Oktoberfest beer on Black Swan's shiny new brew kit and see their creation on tap during the festivities, the winner will walk (or possibly stumble) away with a 30-litre keg to call their own. The overall victor will be announced on September 7.

To register and find out more details about the competition, visit the Black Swan website or speak to a member of staff at the bar. Let the beery brilliant commence!
