East Street Arts was established in 1993 and since then the contemporary art organisation in Leeds has supported a range of artists, collectives and organisations, through public activities, community collaborations and professional development.

The next project from East Street Arts, taking place on July 11-12, is its annual Open Studios event. As the name suggests, this will see artists in studios run by the organisation open their doors to the public, offering the opportunity for conversation, to buy art or learn some tricks of the trade.

More importantly, though, it will allow people to meet some of the city's talented local artists and creatives. This includes graphic designer Ian Kirkpatrick, visual artists Hondartza Fraga and Gillian Holding, digital interactive artist Ben Eaton and portrait artist Beth Fitton. However, visitors will also be welcomed behind the scenes to observe the work of numerous painters, sculptors, filmmakers, performers, ceramicists, illustrators, writers, tailors, photographers and more.

The studios allowing a fascinating glimpse inside these normally private environments include: Patrick Studios (St Marys Lane, LS9 7EH), Union 105 (105 Chapeltown Road, LS7 3HY) and Barkston Studios (Croydon Street, LS 11 9RT).
