This time next week movie fans could be enjoying the latest Hollywood releases on a state-of-the-art IMAX screen, thought to be the first of its kind to be installed at any cinema in Leeds.

The new IMAX cinema at Vue Leeds Kirkstall Road will open to the public on July 30, following a VIP screening of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation on July 29.

The venue features the most innovative and advanced equipment available in cinemas today, including as a wall-to-floor, 50ft wide and 27ft high curved screen, that means no audience member will find themselves in an undesirable seat.

Speaking of seating, the 197 seater IMAX offers three levels of comfort for cinema goers; standard, VIP and Vue's new, wider and fully reclining luxury seats. It will also provide disabled access too.

The film will be projected onto the screen – which, it appears, was lifted into place with help from the Leeds Rhinos (no, we're not quite sure why) – using the latest Sony 4K digital projection technology, with audio being provided by Dolby 7.1 surround sound.

Tickets to the new IMAX cinema range from £14.99 to £19.99, and are available from the myvue website.

Vue Leeds, Cardigan Fields, Kirkstall Road, Leeds, LS4 2DG.
