Museo de Arte Público de Madrid

An unconventional museum, this '70s space at the junction of the Castellana with C/Juan Bravo was the brainchild of engineers José Antonio Fernández Ordoñez and Julio Martínez Calzón. Designing a bridge across the avenue, they thought the space underneath would be a good art venue, and sculptor Eusebio Sempere convinced fellow artists to donate their work. All the major names in late 20th-century Spanish sculpture are represented - including Pablo Serrano, Miró, Chillida - and much of their work is spectacular, especially the dynamic stainless-steel Mon per a infants ('A world for children') by Andreu Alfaro and the spectacular cascade by Sempere that forms a centrepiece.
