Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

AskuaBarra is a bar, yes. But we think that merely referring to it as such is reductive. AskuaBarra is a conceptual bar, a place that captures the essence of a bar’s aura and turns it into so much more. Because if you visit this place and take a seat at one of the 12 tables flanking the bar itself, you’ll see what it’s all really about.

The young owners, Nacho and Jorge Gadea, are full of enthusiasm and desire to create a one-of-a-kind space in the center of Madrid. Within weeks of opening, word had spread that AskuaBarra was one of the fastest rising stars on the gastronomic scene - and rightfully so. If you want to eat amazing food and if you don’t mind that there aren’t fancy tablecloths or napkins folded into elegant shapes, stop reading this right now. Pick up the phone. Make a reservation. Go.

Now that you’ve done that, we’ll tell you a bit more about why this place is so amazing. Exceptional ingredients, masterful preparations, inventive dishes. Think spicy steak tartare (before it was on the menu everywhere else, it was at Askuabarra), sumptuous cuts of meat, oxtail croquettes, jamón, patatas bravas, grilled gizzards and unparalleled ‘cocochas’. Pair all this with wines by the glass (or bottle) and a couple desserts - we love the carmelized ‘torrija’ (french toast) - and you’ll leave AskuaBarra already planning your next visit.
