Beer Here Now: it's not just IMBC

It may be Manchester’s most exciting beer festival this weekend, but there’s plenty of other beery things taking place if you’re not off to Indy Man Beer Con.

If you missed out on the IMBC tickets, never fear as there’s a range of fringe events taking place so you can get with the spirit anyway. Before the festivities kick off, Port Street Beer House will have a takeover from the five breweries involved in New Zealand Beer Collective on Wednesday October 7. This is followed by Howling Hops taking over the taps at The Font’s outlets in the city centre and Chorlton on Thursday October 8. Font’s city centre branch will also be hosting an IMBC afterparty til 2am on the Thursday evening, and Brewdog will also be getting involved with two tap takeovers – Brew By Numbers on Friday October 9 and Weird Beard on Monday October 12.

Fresh from our visit down to Beer Nouveau’s new pad for our last edition, they’ll be opening their brew tap for the first time this weekend. Doors will be open from 12-10pm on both Saturday and Sunday and they’re aiming to open one weekend a month at first before introducing longer opening hours.

Being a fan of the odd tipple might put you at risk of the dreaded beer belly, so of course exercise is important if you want to stay in shape and now there’s a new chance to combine keeping fit with beer set to arrive in the city. Plans are in the works to set up a Manchester chapter of the Mikkeller Running Club – a group which regularly meets for training sessions and runs which end with a refreshing Mikkeller beer. Would booze be a good incentive for you to get fit? Keep an eye on their Twitter for more details.
