Sugar quickly became Brickell’s go-to drinking spot when it first opened in 2017, a Balinese-themed cocktail garden with slammed happy hour crowds and unparalleled rooftop views. A lot has changed in Miami since then, and though the lines aren’t as notorious as they once were, Sugar remains a spot to see and be seen in the heart of the city’s financial district. That’s thanks in no small part to its location, damn near in the clouds on the 40th floor of the ultra-trendy EAST Hotel. Your patience during the elevator ride will be rewarded with a lush, lantern-lit cocktail oasis backdropped by the most stunning 360-degree views of Miami’s iconic skyline and Biscayne Bay.
The vibe: Crypto bros and OnlyFans models intermingle with wealthy tourists and flashy bachelorette parties. It’s a fascinating convergence of Miami stereotypes, and depending on how you feel about them, the views make up for this fact or make it all the more amazing. Either way, Sugar is no average night out.
The food: Think Asian-inspired small plates like lobster crispy rice and wagyu picanha, plus a healthy selection of sushi rolls and an assortment of locally made boozy ice creams.
The drink: Sip on Asian-inspired cocktails like the Little Trouble, a tart and refreshing mix of vodka, yuzu liqueur, strawberry au de vie, fresh strawberry and CO2.
Time Out tip: Snag a reservation for a guaranteed table, especially if you think you may want to have some food. The space itself is pretty intimate, service can be a bit spotty and the dress code is strictly enforced.
