All the things Miamians will do in November while the rest of the country is freezing

The first of November means different things to different people. For some, it’s the unofficial start of the sweater-weather season while for others it’s the day to stock up on discounted candy and put away the arsenal of sexy Halloween costumes. In Miami, the first day of November is the beginning of a much-needed respite from the blistering heat, hurricane warnings and stifling humidity we’ve been dealing with since spring. So, forgive us if we inadvertently taunt you with our Instagram photos of sunny beaches, beautiful weather and perfect tans starting today. We’ve earned it. Here, more of the things Miami people will do this month (and the rest of the year) while the rest of the country is freezing its collective ass off.

1. Wear flip flops (although we reserve the right to wear Uggs or over-the-knee boots because, duh, style knows no weather).

2. Have our post-Thanksgiving constitutional on the beach.

3. Wear a T-shirt to the football tailgate.

4. Get our kids ready for school in five minutes because there is no need for bundling or mittens or hats.

5. Keep our convertible tops down.

6. Run outside instead of on a boring treadmill.

7. Hop in the car for a weekend trip to Disney World or the Florida Keys without the throngs of northerners that fly south for the holidays.

8. Cheerfully browse our collection of scarves, gloves and parkas in anticipation of our winter ski trip (all while dressed in shorts and a pair of sandals).

9. Work on our tan a little while longer.

10. Wait in line for sweets at the Salty Donut or Knaus Berry Farm without uttering a single complaint—it’s 78 degrees and glorious.

11. We will take advantage of all the door-buster deals available on Black Friday because waiting in line won’t lead to frostbite or hypothermia.

12. Make sand angels.

13. Buy a swimsuit on sale and wear it before it’s out of season.

14. Drink iced-coffees—lots and lots of them.

15. Brunch outdoors!
