Dating IRL: Alcione and Edward

We treated two longtime Miamians to an old-fashioned date night in Coconut Grove: burgers and milk shakes. Did sparks fly?

The drinks: Taurus Beer & Whiskey House

Alcione:

“We each ordered a beer to start and then the GM brought over a whiskey flight for us to taste. I thought, Well, this is festive. He showed us the proper way to smell and taste the whiskey.”

Edward:

“The GM walked us through the characteristics of each drink. We had an Irish one, a bourbon blend and a single-malt Scotch. I drink whiskey but didn’t know much about the different qualities.”

The dinner: Taurus Beer & Whiskey House

Alcione:

“I had no idea Taurus served food—I thought it was just a beer bar—so that was a surprise. The little pork sliders (with a mix of two kinds of meat) were really good. I liked everything we had.”

Edward:

“Our server just brought things out—baked oysters, loaded french fries, a burger topped with short rib, frita sliders. It was a lot of food, but everything was delicious. We shared everything.”

The dessert: Vicky's House

Alcione:

“Vicky’s was so cute! I love that the staff welcomes you to 1986 when you walk in. We each ordered a milk shake. I had the BreakFast Club, which had bacon on it. It was huge.”

Edward:

“I had never heard of Vicky’s; it was supercool. We should’ve shared one milk shake—they were so big! I liked the Golden Girls: a banana shake topped with a blondie and a Twinkie.”

The Verdict:

Alcione:

“He was a total gentleman and opened doors for me, though he didn’t really ask me a lot about myself. Eddie is very polite; I got the vibe that he has a good moral compass. I’d be friends.”

Edward:

“The GM sat in for most of our dinner, so it didn’t feel like a date. I had fun—she was cool and super interesting. Overall, it was a good experience but, we didn’t exchange numbers.”
