We set up two South Florida transplants on the ultimate icebreaking first date at the Miami Beach EDITION. Did they hit it off?

The Drinks: Matador Bar

Kirby:
“My first impression of Brittany? She was very friendly, a cool girl. I had a couple of Negronis. It was my first time at Matador Bar, but I really enjoyed it. I’ve already made plans to go back.”

Brittany:
“I didn’t order anything fancy…just a vodka soda. (I’m trying to lose weight.) It was awkward at first but got better as we started talking. We weren’t really sure what was going on.”

The Meal: Market at EDITION

Kirby:
“We shared the oysters and I ordered the grouper—it was solid. It’s usually a toss-up between rosé and Negronis, but I stuck to Negronis.”

Brittany:
“I had never tried oysters before and he really likes oysters, so I thought, ‘Why not?’ They were good! Dinner felt a little rushed, and I wish we hadn’t skipped dessert—it was my birthday!”

The Fun: Basement

Kirby:
“I hadn’t ice-skated in years, so it was fun relearning the whole thing. She was less in tune with it, but we made it work without any injuries. I don’t like attention, but it was fun…after a while.”

Brittany:
“I was terrible! It was embarrassing. (I had to hold on to the handrail.) He was pretty good. It was awkward once the photographer got there. Everyone was looking at us.”

The Verdict

Kirby: ♥♥♥
“It was a good time, but I felt more of a friend vibe. I did stay out later than usual and bought her a couple of extra drinks to celebrate her birthday. I paid for it at work the next day!”

Brittany: ♥♥♥
“Everything went really well, but he was hard to read. I couldn’t tell if he really wanted to be there or not.… It was kind of weird. I gave him my number, but there probably won’t be a second date.”
