John Cleese Live Onstage

LuckyRice Feast 2017

Roving Asian food festival LuckyRice touches down in South Beach for its eighth consecutive year. With Miami Beach as its backdrop, the outdoor feast brings together more than 20 South Florida restaurants to provide an array of Asian-inspired bites. Sample almond-crusted shrimp satay from Market at Edition, dumplings from Hakkasan and banana cake with miso butterscotch from Sweetness Bakeshop, and wash it all down with an assortment of Suntory Whisky Toki cocktails and Asahi beer. All proceeds from this year’s event benefit local food bank Feeding South Florida.

Evita

Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice’s biomusical about Argentine actor and First Lady Eva Duarte de Perón is rich with soaring chorales, Latin pop rhythms and atmospheric jazz.

Sat 4

Tarell Alvin McCraney Reading

The Oscar-winning playwright behind Moonlight returns to his alma mater, Miami’s New World School of the Arts, for a live reading of his “Brothers/Sisters Plays.”

"Sheltering Survivors"

This interactive exhibit explores the international refugee crisis, taking visitors through replicas of real-life shelters and exposing them to photographs and listening stations that capture the immigrant plight (according to the United Nations, 65.6 million people worldwide were displaced in 2016). Design proposals for innovative shelter alternatives and solutions are also on display.

Miami Urban Music and Film Festival

This annual conference aims to foster an environment of collaboration for local creatives working in film, music and comedy. MUMFF is all about homegrown talent and provides a platform for further development within Miami’s artistic community.

Sun 5

Dara Friedman, “Perfect Strangers”

Miami-based Friedman is known for her experimental film and video installations, in which she transforms fragments of the ordinary world into extraordinary moments. This first major career survey of her work includes 2011’s Dancer, as well as 2013’s Play (Part 1 and 2).

Floridacon Ichimura Miami Cosplay and Japanese Festival

The Ichimura-Miami Japanese Garden comes alive for this festival, featuring authentic tea ceremonies, thrilling drum and martial-arts demonstrations, talent shows and goods from local vendors.

“Double Vision”

Vienna design studio Seite Zwei decorates Wolfsonian-FIU’s lobby and exterior with bold typefaces and layered designs that express the duality of graphic design—which at once establishes the creator’s creativity and the brand’s identity. The installation takes its inspiration from works by 20th-century graphic design pioneer Julius Klinger, employing his signature printing techniques. “Double Vision” is presented alongside “Julius Klinger: Posters for a Modern Age.”

Romero Britto, “Portraits”

This Nader exclusive combines original portraits commissioned by private art collectors and works from Britto’s own “Portraits” collection, featuring the faces of famous folks such as Henri Matisse, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Queen Elizabeth II.
