Update: Café La Trova will open to the public on January 28, 2019.

You know what you’ll never hear us complain about? A new bar and restaurant in Little Havana. You know what you’ll really, really never hear us complain about? A new bar and restaurant from Michelle Bernstein and Julio Cabrera in Little Havana.

And that’s exactly what we have to look forward to next month when Café La Trova opens its doors. The new Calle Ocho concept is a venture between Bernstein (who’s creating the food) and Cabrera (who’ll be taking on the drinks) and takes its inspiration from the music and nightlife Cabrera himself remembers from Cuba.

Expect a crash course in all things Cuban and delicious: coffee, cigars, live music, croquetas (there will be a paella croqueta, people) and plenty of cocktails.

The drinks are set to be the star of the show and the restaurant will have two separate bars. One will showcase some nostalgic favorites like the daiquiri and old fashioned. The other shall pay homage to the infamous cocktails of cheesy ’80s Miami like the cosmopolitan and grasshopper. If anyone can make it delicious, it’s Cabrera, who was once named Bombay Sapphire’s Most Imaginative Bartender in the United States.

A specific date has yet to be set but the bar is slated to open soon—in December 2018. And you won’t hear any complaints from us.
