Española Way introduces new discount perk for locals

Sadly, most locals can count on one finger the number of times they’ve visited Española Way in the past year (and it was probably immediately after Pitbull filmed his video for “Hey Mama” there, too). The delightful, European-style boulevard with sidewalk cafes and picturesque architecture has become a place for tourists. But the area’s business owners hope to change that this summer.

This week, the Española Way association introduces a digital discount card exclusively for Miami-Dade residents. Locals simply log onto visitespanolaway.com/locals and download the wallet app for 20 percent off food, drink and shopping all along the strip. Deals are available across restaurants, bars, stores and speciality shops, like newcomer Happy Place Donuts. Specific discounts are subject to change and vary per establishment, so be sure to ask before you order. To redeem, customers just show their app and a valid picture ID confirming their residency.

The discount card is part of the association’s recent push to get locals to Española Way, which this spring launched a calendar of free programming, such as salsa dancing on Thursday nights, outdoor yoga on Saturday mornings and street-wide happy hour on Wednesdays. Remind us why we’re letting tourists take over Española again?
