Hot in Your Hood is our curated neighborhood series, where friends of Time Out Miami highlight the locally owned businesses they love in the areas they reside in. Read on to find out the spots these tastemakers recommend in the ’hoods they rep, from the fun stuff like great places to eat and shop to the practical things, like where they go to break a sweat or get something repaired. These mini-guides are personal recommendations intended to show support to our small-biz community—#notsponsored.

By Maria Tettamanti of The Wordy Girl, as told to Virginia Gil

I have been living in the MiMo area (short for “Miami Modern”) for 15 years and witnessing it reach its potential is a gift. I love that my kids can safely ride their bikes around our neighborhood. I adore the fact that I am a quick car ride from Miami Beach, the Design District, Wynwood and Bal Harbour as it’s centrally located. The MiMo area is home to my Pilates studio (The Pilates Place), my children’s school and some of the dopest haunts in all of Miami. These are the ones you can’t miss.

Mr. Mandolin

Mr. Mandolin just popped on the scene inside the Vagabond Hotel with my Death Row Last Meal: Gyros. The co-owners of much-loved Mandolin Aegean Bistro are whipping up Mediterranean street food with aplomb. Opa to that!

OMG Brigadeiros

My husband, Sebastian, has an unhealthy obsession with a Brazilian dessert called brigadeiros. Composed of chocolate mixed with condensed milk, this Brazilian sweet treat has been mastered by OMG Brigadeiros shop on Biscayne Boulevard. I order the Nutella brownie pie and it’s absolutely divine.

Dal Plin at Politan Row

I rarely eat pasta but when I do, Dal Plin over at Politan Row is our go-to. Owned by the sweetest Italian couple you ever met, their freshly made plates of pasta are downright heavenly. My kids are obsessed with their gnocchis and my favorite dish is their chicken Milanese—which is both thinly pounded and fried to perfection.

Keto Kitchen 2GO

One of the best decisions I made during quarantine was ordering a keto diet meal delivery service from Keto Kitchen 2GO. Their kitchen is located in Little Haiti and they pride themselves on cooking organic keto meals delivered daily. The best part? Delicious meals aside, I lost the dreaded “Quarantine 15" and feel better than ever.
