One of the year’s most popular beach days will have to be spent indoors. On Friday evening, Mayor Giménez announced that he will be closing Miami-Dade’s beaches for the Fourth of July weekend.
In his statement, Mayor Giménez said that he will be signing an emergency order that would keep all county beaches closed from Friday, July 3, through Tuesday, July 7. "I have decided that the only prudent thing to do to tamp down this recent uptick is to crack down on recreational activities that put our overall community at higher risk," said the Miami-Dade mayor.
According to the Miami Herald, Giménez decided to close the beaches after consulting with county health experts, who reported 1,528 new coronavirus across Miami-Dade. The state also saw a record-breaking spike with 8,942 total new cases on Friday.
Fireworks displays will go on as planned but folks won’t be allowed to watch from parks or other public viewing areas. Instead, all pyrotechnic displays will have to be experienced from home or from inside your car.
Independence Day 2020 might be the most encumbered one of all.
