Miami Spice of the week: Boulud Sud Miami

Miami Spice has officially arrived. Each week we’ll be zeroing in on a specific restaurant we think deserves to be on your Spice hit list. This week: Boulud Sud.

The name Boulud is a Pavlov's Bell for most tuned-in eaters. And that’s because French chef Daniel Boulud has had a long career of making folks drool—from New York to Singapore. In Miami, his most recent effort, the Mediterranean Boulud Sud, maintains that lovely tradition of salivation. Boulud Sud Miami (there was already a pretty famous Boulud Sud in New York) debuted at the beginning of 2018 as a replacement for Boulud’s DB Bistro Moderne. This is the restaurant’s first Spice and—after stuffing ourselves to a dangerous capacity on a recent visit—we can confidently say they have nailed it.

When to go: Boulud Sud offers its Miami Spice menu for both lunch and dinner. Lunch is offered Monday through Friday (noon to 2:30pm) and dinner is offered Monday through Saturday (6pm to 11pm during the week and 6pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday).

What to order: Boulud Sud’s Spice menu rotates every two weeks, so you’ll probably need to improvise a bit. However, we’d be willing to bet the seared Mediterranean branzino will be sticking around. It’s a house specialty and—though a bit of an obvious choice—you need to order it. It’s perfect.

Why we love it: Some fine dining restaurants in Miami phone it in for Miami Spice. Boulud Sud isn’t one of them. The menu here is a delicious (and quite filling) journey through the flavors that made Daniel Boulud famous and the service is that lovely balance between attentiveness and letting you enjoy your meal.

You’ll save: About $15. The three courses we ate during our Spice would have totaled $54 versus Miami Spice’s $39.
