Miami Spice of the week: Lobster Bar Sea Grille

Miami Spice has officially arrived. Each week we’ll be zeroing in on a specific restaurant we think deserves to be on your Spice hit list. This week: Lobster Bar Sea Grille.

Dishes that look like science experiments. Fish we can’t pronounce. Nitrogen-infused foams and playful takes on this and that. Don’t get us wrong—we’re suckers for all that showmanship. But after enough of those sort of dinners, you start to crave something classic that requires only a fork and knife and not a bachelors degree in organic chemistry. The South of Fifth restaurant Lobster Bar Sea Grille knows what you mean. And from the dazzling art deco building it calls home to the menu full of surf and turf heavyweights, it delivers nostalgia via more than one of your senses. That’s why we’re giving Lobster Bar Sea Grille our Spice of the week honor. In addition to being a pleasantly decadent meal, this is a great place to bring a parent or friend who may be a little skeptical of more fantastical culinary affairs.

When to go: The Miami Spice menu is offered daily for dinner only. Dinner service runs from 5:30pm to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and 5:30pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

What to order: With seven appetizer choices and eight entree options, you have your work cut out for you. Personally, we’re here for the seafood, so we love the jumbo lump crab cake to start. If you have a dining partner, do a true surf and turf and split the Nova Scotia “lobster stuffed lobster” and the New York Strip (if you can only pick one, make it lobster, baby). Try to save room for the sweet, airy profiteroles—we believe in you.

Why we love it: Every once in a while, one needs to be reminded of the power of lobster and steak. It’s truly a great American flavor combination. And Lobster Bar Sea Grille is the reminder you need. You’ll feel like you’re celebrating something—even if that’s only the buttery crustacean in front of you.

You’ll save: Since some items on the menu (like the lobster stuffed lobster) are market price, it’s tough to say for sure, but we know you’ll save quite a bit. The menu we suggested would normally cost about $80, so that’s a whopping savings in the ballpark of $40 per person.
