Miami’s getting a taste of this crazy cold front with possible temperatures in the 30s this week

The east coast is bracing for record-breaking cold this weekend. Disney is closing theme parks in Orlando. And today, it snowed in Tallahassee for the first time since 1989. Read that again: it’s snowing in Florida.

And you thought you’d be safe in warm, tropical Miami, right? Wrong! Because this Thursday, temperatures could dip into the high 30s and things will stay chilly through Sunday, with lows in the 50s. And even though serious winter warriors might scoff at that, we don’t feel any shame in saying: that’s freaking cold. That’s, like, refrigerator cold! Are we even allowed to wear shorts?! Someone knit the iguanas tiny scarfs!

OK. Deep breaths. This is a lot to deal with, we know.

South Florida hasn’t seen snow since January 19, 1977—and it’s not likely we’ll see it again during this cold front. Still, you might want to cancel that al fresco brunch this weekend.
