Spirit ramps up service from Fort Lauderdale and Miami this March, adding more nonstop options to the Caribbean, Latin America and major U.S. cities.

Spring break crowds clogging I-95? Spirit has a solution: fly over them.
Starting on March 12, the airline is ramping up service from South Florida with new and expanded flights to 15 destinations from Fort Lauderdale and Miami, just in time for peak escape season.
Fort Lauderdale is getting the biggest glow-up, with increased service to 13 destinations that stretch from the Caribbean to the West Coast. Cancun jumps to twice-daily flights, Detroit to a busy four times a day and San Juan, Santo Domingo and Santiago all get double-daily boosts—welcome news for anyone eyeing a spring trip south of the mainland. On the domestic side, Los Angeles, Austin, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Charleston, Kansas City and even Key West all see added frequency.
Miami travelers aren’t left out either. Spirit is doubling down on two of the most in-demand routes out of MIA, adding twice-daily service to both Chicago and Detroit, ideal for snowbirds heading back north or Midwesterners hoping to swap gray wintry skies for palm trees.
The timing also lines up with a quietly strong moment for Spirit. The carrier was recently ranked among the top three North American airlines for on-time performance by aviation analytics firm Cirium, a stat that matters a lot more when you’re trying to squeeze a long weekend out of a short work week. Pair that with its newer premium options, like the Big Front Seat, and the airline is clearly making a play to be more than just the ultra-budget backup plan.
All the new and expanded routes are already available to book, meaning your March escape plan can officially move from “someday” to “checking flight prices at lunch.”
