The new spot in Bal Harbour is set to be a martini-fueled, see-and-be-seen destination.

A glamorous new addition to Miami's steakhouse scene is opening this week. Slim’s, the latest concept from restaurateur Stephen Starr, opens on March 17 inside Bal Harbour Shops, taking over the original space that once housed his longtime hit Makoto. This new spot is all glitz and glamor, with an elevated take on steakhouse classics and a stunner of a pink cake.
The setting sets the stage, with a vibe that's old Hollywood meets tropical luxury. Designed by New York studio GACHOT, the 183 seat dining room boasts rich textures and cinematic drama. The honey-toned leather banquettes, checkerboard marble floors and moody lighting are perfect for a martini-fueled night out. Murals by illustrator Christoph Niemann add personality and a playful art deco edge.
There’s indoor and outdoor seating plus a dedicated bar that’s expected to be one of the most coveted cocktail spots in Bal Harbour. The drinks program pays tribute to classic indulgence, with martinis front and center. Choose from a lineup of variations, ranging from crisp and subtly dirty to sweeter versions designed for a slow sip.
In the kitchen, chef Anthony Micari keeps things rooted in steakhouse tradition but with a few luxury upgrades. Premium cuts of beef lead the menu alongside Wagyu options and a polished raw bar with oysters and caviar. Seafood lovers aren’t left out either, with dishes like wild Dover sole, twin lobster tails and Chilean sea bass rounding out the mains.
Some of the starters play with nostalgia. Pigs in a blanket, king crab rolls and crab stuffed avocado offer familiar comfort in a slightly more refined form. Then there’s the cheesesteak, a decadent signature made with hand cut Wagyu, foie gras, black truffle and fried onions packed into a sesame roll.
Dessert may end up stealing the spotlight. Alongside coconut chiffon cake and a classic tableside bananas foster, Slim’s is serving a pink champagne cake that looks tailor made for Instagram. With its soft blush color and celebratory feel, it’s the kind of dessert that could easily become Miami’s next viral sweet.
With its mix of steakhouse classics, polished cocktails and cinematic design, Slim’s is aiming to be more than just another dinner reservation. If opening buzz is any sign, Bal Harbour may have its next see and be seen dining room.
Slim's opens at Bal Harbour Shops, 9700 Collins Avenue, on March 17, 2026. Follow on Instagram @slimsbalharbour.
