Fri 16

Laser Fridays at the Frost Planetarium

Kick back in Frost Science’s massive Planetarium for its biweekly retro classic laser shows (on the first and third Friday of each month), featuring a new set of artists each week. Friday’s showcase includes tunes by Michael Jackson (7pm), Beyoncé (8pm) and Lady Gaga (9pm), among others.

Watches & Wonders

Dive head first into the complicated world of horology at this four-day event at the Miami Design District. Yes, it’s bougie—you’ll peep collectible timepieces and debut styles from luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton—but the mostly free, fully immersive experience is open to all. Among the numerous events scheduled during Watch & Wonders is a VR ride that takes you back to three key moments in the development of watchmaking, plus an exhibit entitled “Telling Time” and numerous lectures and workshops.

Sat 17

Miami Design District Concours

Peep the world’s rarest post-war sports cars, a fleet of exotic vehicles and racing automobiles from the around the world—including a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB, a 1988 Lamborghini Countach, a 1956 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and many more. The free, two-day event runs concurrently with the weekend’s Watches & Wonders showcase.

WakeFest 2018

This year, festival organizer J. Wakefield Brewing has banned all corporate brewers from participating in the popular craft beer fair, which bodes well for connoisseurs looking to savor some truly under-the-radar beers.

Gay8 Festival

Calle Ocho isn’t the only Carnaval in town this winter. Gay8 combines the Latin celebrations of the pre-Lenten period with some LGBTQ flavor for a one-day event during Lent that’s possibly too indulgent, with music, food, free films and more. (SW 8th St between 14th and 17th Aves)

Sun 18

Hawkers Model Volleyball

Watch hundreds of models battle it out at this year’s model volleyball tournament, where more than 300 models from dozens of agencies along with more than 15,000 spectators descend onto Miami Beach for a weekend of volleyball, live music, food and drink. (At 8th St and Ocean Dr)

Coconut Grove Arts Festival

The season’s best arts events aren’t quite behind us. This annual fete on the mainland is far less glitzy than Art Basel, but its low-key charm attracts thousands of emerging and established artists to share their work. The caliber of art on display is incredible, as artisans and craftspeople show off their wares by the bay. (2700 S Bayshore Dr)

Art Wynwood

Didn’t get your full of contemporary paintings and avant-garde sculptures during Art Basel? The seventh-annual Art Wynwood returns to Miami to make sure you’re all creatively satiated this President’s Day weekend. With a new location at the former Miami Herald site, the seventh edition of the fair features a performance by JonOne and includes an Artrageous kids’ center for children ages 3 to 13, courtesy of the Miami Children’s Museum. (Art Wynwood Pavilion, One Herald Plz at NE 14th St)

Mon 19

Miami International Boat Show

They say the two best days in a boat owner’s life are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it. Try the first at this sailor’s gathering where you can peruse hundreds of boats, yachts and marine gear. Not into the seafaring lifestyle? The boat show boasts food-and-drink lounges with sushi, champagne and other tasty options.

Mary J. Blige

The multiple Grammy Award–winning R&B legend, who spent 2017 dominating the Billboard charts with her 13th studio album, Strength of a Woman, and starring in the Netflix film Mudbound, returns to South Florida. Be advised: Neither hateration nor holleration will be allowed at this dancerie.
