Fri Jan 12

Art Deco Weekend

Commemorate the city’s beautiful facades with special film screenings on the sand, classic car displays, walking tours, a retro-themed fashion show and art exhibitions. At Ocean Dr between Fifth and 15th Sts.

“Program Two”

The second program of Miami City Ballet’s season celebrates the centenary of Jerome Robbins’s birth with a repertory of five of the master’s jubilant, athletic ballets: the carnivalesque Circus Polka, the animalistic The Cage, the lyrical duet Other Dances, the nocturnal romance In the Night and the iconic West Side Story Suite.

Sat 13

Make Your Own Bonsai Seminar and Workshop

Bonsai expert Jason Morehead teaches you how to sculpt and trim your perfect tree. The session begins with a free lecture, where you’ll learn the basics of this ancient art form, and is followed by an hour-long potting workshop ($50), in which you’ll put your newfound knowledge to practice.

Ice Cream We Love

For an alternative to the Museum of Ice Cream, head to Bal Harbour Shops, where scoops on scoops await. Throughout the weekend, pop-up parlors will line the first and second level promenades of the mall and serve up an array of flavors from places such as Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor, Freddo and Dasher & Crank, with proceeds benefiting Holtz Children’s Hospital.

Sun 14

Beaux Arts Festival

This annual arts festival in support of South Florida’s first art museum, the Lowe, returns to the University of Miami’s campus. The event, encouraging an appreciation of the arts across Miami, features outdoor exhibits, local vendors and lots of food.

Cirque du Soleil: Volta

Cirque du Soleil’s 41st production could be its most futuristic show to date, with an electro-pop soundtrack by indie hitmakers M83 and a premise that takes viewers light years into space. Volta, like many other Cirque productions, centers around a conflicted main character named Waz whose journey to enlightenment is chronicled through explosive performances and spellbinding acrobatics. It’s not your typical story of personal transformation, as characters in technicolor costumes leap across the stage, rollerblade by and fly over audiences.
