Prepare to make a new line for doughnuts next month.

Opening in March on Española Way is Happy Place Donuts, a bakery from none other than David Grutman—of LIV, Komodo and OTL. What is Grutman’s idea of a happy place exactly? It’s a massive bakery that sells pastries, happy dough balls, inspired by Italian street fare; house-made pop tarts stuffed with jam, Nutella and other tasty, gooey things; gelato; and Swirlies—like a sophisticated Dairy Queen Blizzard you customize from an assortment of available toppings. And because there’s a nightlife impresario running the place, Happy Place’s menu includes speciality mojitos that pair with each one of the doughnuts sold. A doughnut and coffee is a fine combination at 10am but your 4pm sugar slump could use something, hm, a little strong.

Sharing the 4,000-square-foot space, which is slated for 507 Española Way, will be Sugar Factory’s Gummy World, a colorful paradise of chewy confections that features the company’s first gummy bear machine. The adorable guy will pump out an estimated 20,000 gummies per day in shapes like stars, hearts and ducks. He also has the ability to make them boozy, doling out flavors like rosé and peach Bellini. If you’ve never felt like your hangover had a hangover, an afternoon at the Happy Place promises to change that.
