Michael Schwartz is leaving the mainland—sort of. The James Beard Award-winning chef behind such greats as Michael's Genuine and Amara at Paraiso is bringing his beloved pizza restaurant, Harry’s Pizzeria, to South Beach this summer. Years in the making, the 2,500-square-foot eatery will be the largest location for the small local chain with additional outposts in the Miami Design District and Coconut Grove.

Schwartz is drawing major inspiration from his new surroundings. In terms of design, South Beach ditches Harry’s signature warm, wood-decked interiors in favor of a bright and breezy aesthetic— which is accented by a large marlin, paper lanterns and a vibrant mural created by local artist collective Friends with You. The expansion has also signaled some welcome changes to the menu. On the health front, SoBe’s body-con diners will get to order a variety of new veggie dishes, such as crudite and endive salad. And making sure the dining experience is still fun, Harry’s South Beach introduces the pizzeria’s new craft cocktail program, featuring drinks like the refreshing Cabarete (a riff on the Aperol spritz) and a lineup of limoncello-style beverages made with mandarins, kumquats and other fruit.

Harry’s Pizzeria will open this July at 1680 Meridian Avenue, one block north of Lincoln Road. According to the press release, Harry, Schwartz’s son and the pizzeria’s namesake, plans to join the team this summer as well. Congrats to Harry on his new job and Schwartz for finding a genius solution to the current hiring crisis.
