Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

It’s remarkable what a little zhuzhing can do to a place. After four decades in business, Christy’s Restaurant closed and reopened under management in early 2021. The new owners, one of whom was a longstanding managing partner, brightened up the space, added new colorful artworks with help from Wynwood’s Eclectic Elements Design Firm and made the necessary adjustments to ensure the Coral Gables institution remained familiar.

If less is more when it comes to Christy’s design then the menu doesn’t need fixing because it was never broken. In fact, the Caesar salad hasn’t changed in 20 years and is still made exactly the same way by the same person. The famous aged beef continues to be stellar and an excellent value compared to the steakhouses of today where you’re likely to pay double for half the quality of Christy’s. Don’t miss the baked Alaska for two, an otherwise ordinary Neapolitan ice cream made extraordinary by the tableside fire show.

An improved cocktail list, featuring stiff handcrafted drinks such as the mezcal-based El Cartel, complements the few modern additions to the menu. A refreshing tuna tartare and decadent potato skins served with sour cream and caviar should definitely hit your table.
