March 2021: Stephens Deli is no longer at Time Out Market Miami, but you can visit its brick-and-mortar location in Hialeah.

Welcome to Food Envy, where we’ll highlight different dishes from Time Out Market Miami that we think you’re going to love—partly because we do. This week, the throwback classic that needs no introduction: Uncle Ira’s tuna melt from Stephens Deli.

RECOMMENDED: Guide to Time Out Market Miami

That first bite from a fresh, hot Jewish deli sandwich is not unlike receiving a big, warm hug from your bubbe (that’s grandma in Yiddish) after a particularly rough day. Comforting and familiar, hearty and soul-satisfying, Uncle Ira’s tuna melt from Stephens Deli is that hug you crave.

We’re aware that no matter the occasion, it’s usually pretty tough to turn away from two pieces of perfectly marbled rye stuffed with mounds of sliced meat, cheese and generous swaths of grainy mustard and sauerkraut. But sometimes the mood calls for something a tad less extravagant than 10 layers of steaming pastrami and Russian dressing.

Made with a perfectly seasoned blend of white albacore tuna, chopped sweet gherkins, tangy deli mustard, thick-cut tomato and a slice of Swiss on toasted rye, the Stephens tuna melt is hearty and indulgent without making you want to take a nap afterward.

It’s also served with a juicy half sour whole kosher pickle, which makes for an excellent crunchy intermission between your two sandwich halves. In short, we’re by no means knocking Reuben or Rachel (y’all are straight-up delish), but when it comes to the perfect midday pick-me-up meal, it’s Uncle Ira’s tuna melt that checks every box for us.
