Yesterday marked the inaugural day of Marché Jean-Talon's first-ever Christmas market in Montreal, where space has been set aside to put up dozens of mini wooden chalets occupied by local craftsmen, gift ideas and hot drinks under strings of lights.
While there are vendors for stocking stuffers and full-on packages of good from local makers, the organizers have promised a lot of snacking options with hot chocolate, churros or a comforting raclette for anyone looking to warm up.
If you haven't picked up your tree yet, this would be a good place to do it—if you can grab some of the market's parking for yourself. If you want to try to sneak a tree past the STM ticket booths, you can try, but they likely won't be allowing you to bring a tree on the trains, no matter how good they smell.
Running on weekends, the market will be open on Fridays from 12pm to 6pm, Saturdays from 10am to 6pm and Sundays from 10am to 5 pm. If you've got a lot on your plate on the weekend, the market will also be operational in the days leading up to Christmas Day, so last-minute shoppers and anyone looking to get out of the house can go check it out on December 21, 22, and 23.
With the arrival of this new seasonal attraction, Marché Jean-Talon joins Atwater Market in hosting a full-on Christmas market, as well as local restaurants like Auberge Saint-Gabriel, the dessert-forward destination Ratafia, the café Bonjour-Hi and many others as they supplement their lack of indoor dining with retail to draw people in.
