Mici d'Ici is bringing Romanian street food to Montreal with $7 sausage sliders this weekend

Don't underestimate the sausage sandwiches, poutine, and meat lollipops—you read that right—from this place.

If a Montrealer is out late on the Main, they're usually going to either eat fast food, cram into a pizza place, or eat $2—or is it $2.50 now?—chow mein with peanut butter sauce (you know who you are). The options can feel just a little limited when you need something in your stomach before last call.

How's a juicy $7 sausage slider topped with sauerkraut, fried onions and mustard sound for a change?

Mici d'Ici is an all-new project from its owners and operators Radu Iosif and David Ponce, looking to bring the do-one-thing-and-do-it-well formula to Montreal with Romanian mici, garlicky half-sausages made either with chicken, beef & lamb, or an original and traditional pork-lamb-beef mixture. Tons of this stuff is sold on the streets of Bucharest (especially after a night out) and now they're bringing it here on Friday, August 20.

At $7 a slider, served as quick and filling sandwiches alongside poutine that can made with truffle-salted fries (a recipe Ponce, a Quebecer, feels really strongly about) cooked up in a mix of vegetable oil and beef fat, 4-ounce sausage lollipops, and a creamy sauerkraut salads. Just about everything on the menu from the meat to the bread, except the truffles for the truffle salt, is sourced from Quebec.

The top pick of them all, however, is the chiftele slider: A patty of ground pork, potato, onion and deill that's coated in panko and deep-fried before being placed on a brioche bun with sauerkraut and mustard. That one can't be missed.

The big news is that they're giving away free taste tests Thursday, August 19, from 5 p.m. until they have nothing left to give Montrealers. Order anything you like; they're looking to get the full busy service experience.

Mici d'Ici opens this Friday, August 20 at 19 Mont-Royal Ave East (the corner of Mont-Royal and Saint-Laurent), and is open from Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Saturdays from noon to 1 a.m.
