It’s official: a fourth STM strike is underway in Montreal.
Maintenance employees at the STM began their fourth strike early Thursday morning as a contract dispute with the city's transit agency continues to stall.

When is the Montreal strike?
The union confirmed an overtime strike running from Dec. 11 at 12:01 a.m. to Jan. 11 at 11:59 p.m.
What is the impact on STM bus, metro and paratransit service?
Bus service is expected to operate on its regular schedule, but warns that a shortage of repairable vehicles could occur as the strike continues.
As the strike progresses, there will be a shortage of vehicles due to maintenance delays. This shortage may result in bus departure cuts.
Confirm the real-time arrival of your bus within 20 minutes of the scheduled arrival time at your stop.
Metro service will remain fully operational, with the STM assuring that it will be “100% guaranteed at all times,” supported by the network’s reserve fleet.
Paratransit services remain unaffected.
However, the service offer is subject to change depending on the evolving impacts of the strike.
Why is there another strike?
STM maintenance workers are gearing up for their fourth strike of the year.
Scheduled to last a month, the action targets overtime hours only, as contract negotiations with the transit agency remain stalled.
The union has noted that STM heavily relies on overtime and hopes the strike will push the agency toward a collective agreement.
A look back at previous STM strikes
This is the fourth STM maintenance strike in 2024:
First strike: June
Second strike: September to October
Third strike: November (shortened, ending Nov. 12)
The ongoing labour dispute continues to impact Montreal’s public transit system as negotiations remain unresolved.
What to do if there is no bus or metro service?
If the métro service has ended for the day, you can check the Trip Planner and untick the “Métro” option to see if there are any buses available for your route.
If a bus is not available, the STM encourages commuters to consider other transportation options such as Bixi, walking, Communauto, taxi, Uber, carpooling, or asking friends or family for help.
