First it was the Michelin 2026 awards. Now, in a festive and fast-paced award show (and after party) in beautiful New Orleans, the prestigious 50 Best group announced the winners of the 2026 50 Best Restaurants in North America list.
And Canada ruled again.
A whopping 14 Canadian restaurants have made the 50 Best North American list discerned by the anonymous army of 300 local experts—that’s 4 more than last year.
Chicago’s Smyth, led by chefs John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, climbed from No. 4 to take the top spot for its continued refining its style and consistency, its deeply personal approach to cooking and its dining room experience that feels intimate, immersive and ingredient-focused.
Montreal restaurants that made the list include the lauded Mon Lapin, whose spot at No. 5 this year compounds with last year’s as it also was named the Best Restaurant in East Canada.
Le Violon came in at No. 15 (up from last year’s No. 29), Beba climbed to No. 27 from last year’s No. 50, and a new addition to the list, Sabayon turned heads by taking No. 34.
Canada impressed with a growing standing on this coveted list this year, with a total of 14 spots.
Ontario impressed with The Pine in Collingwood taking No. 48, Mhel from Toronto taking No. 28 (up from No. 44 last year), Toronto’s Edulis entering the list for the first time at No. 25, and Toronto’s Quetzal nabbing No. 8, up from last year’s No. 11.
Extra accolades went to Lincoln, Ontario’s Pearl Morissette, who not only were ranked at No. 3, but also received the coveted North America’s 50 Best Restaurants Art of Hospitality Award (held by Quebec City’s Tanière last year, now ranked at No. 9).
