Where to find the best desserts in Montreal for delivery and takeout

Pâtisserie Rhubarbe

Pastry chef Stéphanie Labelle opened Pâtisserie Rhubarbe after cutting her teeth abroad in Paris in addition to stints at some of Montreal’s most esteemed restaurants. Crowned Pastry Chef of the Year at the 2019 Lauriers de la Gastronomie Québécoise, her style is ultra soigné; dare we say, Michelin star-caliber? Think of the kind of stuff you’d see from Dominique Ansel in New York or Christophe Michalak in Paris.

Sonya Sammut is a pastry chef with a pedigree and a half, complete with internships in France and Italy, tours of duty in several of Montreal’s most reputable fine dining establishments, as well as an appearance on Chopped Canada. In 2014, this shop opened with a special emphasis on exquisitely-made cakes that are just as unpretentious alongside predominantly French-inspired baked goods and various festive sorbets. Did we mention a significant part of her menu is vegan-friendly?

Ratafia

One of the greatest arrivals in Little Italy of late, Ratafia's a dessert and wine bar that makes for the perfect place to end a date night (or start one). Until we can dine there again, we highly recommend anything off of their curtailed menu that's available for "cakeout", from a frozen Namandier cake with blood orange parfait to cherry tartlette or donuts by the half-dozen. Only available on the weekend from Friday to Sunday.

It's only available for takeout with a preorder, but it's worth it: A homegrown talent, Patrice Demers and his pastry shop are among the best in town. From delicate kouign-amann to large cake that meld Saint-Henri coffee with chocolate or immaculately constructed fruit tarts, everything on the menu's as beautiful as it is delicious.

Hof Kelsten

Its pastry chef Suyin Wong and baker Jeffrey Finkelstein is the source of some of this Mile End bakery's most excellent creations, from apple turnovers to melt-in-your-mouth babkas, cookies and cakes. Their recent flip to a grocery store model to suit the times means you can grab just as many sweet and savory items as you can stock up for later. Whatever you prefer, always order the cookie dough.

Léché Desserts

Léché Desserts

There’s a very fine line between sophistication and opulence, and highly-lauded pastry chef Josie Weitzenbauer of Léché Desserts effortlessly rides a unicycle on a tight rope straight down the middle. Her donuts are otherworldly in their light and airy texture, perfectly balanced yet daring and complex in flavor. The vegan passionfruit is to die for and, if you’re cool with dairy, the cheesecake donut will absolutely blow your mind.

Crémy Pâtisserie

Rémy Couture of Crémy Pâtisserie became an overnight foodie sensation after winning an episode of Food Network's (the OG American one) Donut Showdown way back in 2014. He’s probably sick and tired of the narrative, but Couture hasn’t stopped slinging over-the-top and ever-so-comforting donuts and baked goods from his brick-and-mortar and food truck ever since. Bourbon and bacon, Red Velvet and Oreo, and the “Homer” are just a few of his creations. Now he’s doing deliveries.

Foiegwa

One of the darlings of the Montreal food scene, Foiegwa (alongside its more recent sibling Fugazzi) is taking Uber Eats and Door Dash by storm. We could go on about the truffle & butter spaghetti with a 64º egg yolk and Parmigiano-Reggiano, but let’s stick to the sweets. Their delivery brunch menu is chalked up full of goodies including PB&J tartines on homemade bread, brioche french toasts, and ricotta blueberry pancakes.

Dalla Rose

Dalla Rose

Stunning artisanal ice cream with bold flavors rotating weekly and scrumptious cookies by two Nora Gray veterans; what's not to like? Isn’t that the exact Webster's Dictionary definition of heaven? Did we mention there are vegan-friendly options for both? If you can put two and two together, this adds up to custom DIY ice cream sandwich making kits galore.

Le Cheese Truck

The boys at Le Cheese have been dealing cheddar-packed comfort food for seven years now. Mac ‘n cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, Philly cheesesteaks, cheesy tater tots, poutines; you name it, they got it. Of particular interest is their only dessert: Three beer-battered and deep-fried cheesecake bites tossed in cinnamon sugar with a complimentary side of strawberry dipping sauce. Words simply cannot describe the debauchery.

Romados

Maybe not the most iconic dessert Montreal has to offer, but a case can certainly be made for pastéis de nata as a top-tier contender amidst Montreal’s exemplarily multicultural food scene. Light and sweet custard on the inside, crispy and flaky pastry on the outside and caramelized on top. It's the best in town.

Chez Milo & Fine

Chez Milo & Fine

This small Petite-Patrie restaurant is the brainchild of Zairo-Breton ex-pat Cedric Nkueno-Mouazan, and is now delivering the finest crêpes and buckwheat galettes Montreal has to offer right to their patrons’ doorsteps. Get yourself a dozen of each, a jar of Fleur de Sel caramel, blast some Nolwenn Leroy tunes and turn your living room into a Fest Noz for the evening. Yec’hed mat!

McKiernan

Behold McKiernan’s online boutique stocked up full of extravagant edibles, alcoholic beverages, various pantry staples, and a plethora of hipster merch—but the desserts in particular bear the need for some attention. McKiernan’s famed donuts, cookies, and flourless brownies take the cake.

Au Pied de Cochon

If you’re feeling nostalgic for some gutbusting good times at chef Martin Picard's restaurant like us, just order some PDC lemon-meringue pie and other maple products straight from the sugar shack. Then cue up the Quebec episode of No Reservations for a night at home done right.

Boucherie Grinder

Boucherie Grinder

Boucherie Grinder is the nec plus ultra of Montreal butcher shops specializing in outlandishly high-end and immaculately marbled cuts of meat, but they've a few sweet things on the menu that are worth adding to your order. Its Griffintown storefront is delivering luxury rations complete with posh bottles of booze within a 5 km radius (with a surcharge for anyone else who may also need their fix of Wagyu). Their decadent Pouding Chômeur is worth its weight in gold.
