Defy Film Festival says
Defy Film Festival is disruptive. It’s inspiring. It’s curating films for audiences that resist traditional processes to elevate experimentation and create conversations.

The two-day film festival featuring 57 films will be hosted at Studio 615 on Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 in East Nashville aims to bring together filmmakers and fans in a creative experience that connects people with art that will surprise and move them.

It’s not about comedies, dramas, documentaries; it’s about the film -- not the genre. Simply put, audiences can expect films that defy standards and expectations.

“Defy is looking for artists who took the traditions by the shoulders and shook out the dust.”

Festival founders and filmmakers Billy Senese and Dycee Wildman created the concept for Defy over a conversation about movies. They asked themselves, “What films over the past 5 to 10 years moved us the most?” Their answer: Films that build on traditional formulas that work, then taking them to another level or place unlike we’ve seen before with storytelling, technology, and execution.

“It’s for filmmakers who see what’s happening, what needs to happen and how to make it different. It’s for the visionaries who see new places to go in the process.”

Defy has two objectives: Bring great films to Nashville and pair them with engaged audiences in an experience that fosters conversations about pushing boundaries in filmmaking. That’s what great art does -- it connects and creates beyond the screen and continues to inspire long after the audience leaves.
