Description
In this class students will learn how to carve a wooden head. Starting with a discussion of the history of puppets, production and technology, students will learn what kind of chisels to use, carving techniques and how to sharpen chisels. We will begin by modeling the skull from Plasticine, then adding muscles anatomically to the skull, with a focus on the difference between male and female face. Students will then make a simple leather joint to attach the head to the wooden body. This class will also cover the final surface treatment and patina and final details and decoration.
Class level
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. All skill levels are welcome.
What will students take away?
Students will take away a knowledge of how to use wood for carving puppets and dolls. Some knowledge of anatomy, and the variety of different styles and techniques used to make wooden dolls and puppets.

Linden wood for carving – 2 pieces.

Students must bring:
Plasticine modelling clay and carving tools. (tools can also be purchased from Eva during class)
