Artist Statement
Zow Gow all started when my niece asked me to join her in playing with some Play Doh. We made a bunch of stuff but after inspection, I felt our new friends missed just one thing: headphones. In time I thought about how it’d be cool and unique to create an imaginary world that centered around DJs, I being a sub-par DJ myself. I began jotting down story ideas based on my own experiences and those of other DJs I knew, with a little otherworldly outrageousness thrown in and then started making some short films.
I took the name ‘Zow Gow’, which is a Chinese phrase that one says when one is frustrated or maybe akin to a little kid curse. Like ‘Dang it!’ Literally it means ‘rotten cakes’, which I think my little DJs and their fans look like sometimes.
