Whether you’re a flight comparison site kinda person, or there’s a go-to operator who’s your first port of call when planning a break, Europe’s airlines will have some new competition from 2024.
That’s because there’s going to be a brand new airline, set to offer short and medium-haul flights from two of Europe’s most popular airports.
German operator Lufthansa is behind ‘City Airlines’, the brand new company which will be based predominantly in Munich and Frankfurt.
Operations will begin with a fleet of Airbus A319 (which carries up to 156 people), and the website promises ‘fast and convenient connections’. It goes on to say that it’ll provide a programme of beautiful European destinations, from major cities to remote destinations – stay tuned for more information on these specifically.
While the airline is not set to take off until summer 2024, the company is due to begin recruiting this month, and is apparently targeting English-speaking pilots.
Managing director of City Airlines, Jens Fehlinger, explained that the company wants to grow sustainably and provide secure jobs in Germany.
And City Airlines isn’t the only new operator due to begin flights next year. Global Airlines, a British operator that acquired an Airbus A380 (the most spacious passenger plane in the world) earlier in 2023, is hoping to have launched transatlantic services from London to New York and LA by the end of 2024.
