Better late than never, right?

This just in: The Chicken Sandwich Wars wage on, with an unexpected new contender entering the deliciously long-winded battle. American restaurant chain Chili's announced its entry today by unveiling the Chili's Chicken Sandwich, which will supposedly 'put all other chicken sandwiches to shame.' (Their words, not ours.)

What sets this chicken sandwich apart from poultry peers like Popeyes, Burger KingMcDonald's and KFC? According to reps for the Tex-Mex chain, the Chili's Chicken Sandwich will crush the competition with its brand-new 'special sauce,' which reportedly took more than a year to perfect. The other star of the show – the chicken! – is hand-battered and hand-breaded, topped with tomato and lettuce and nestled inside a toasted brioche bun.

There's just one catch: Chili's Chicken Sandwich is only available for a limited time. If you want to weigh in on the validity of this handheld, you'll have to plan a trip to Chili's between June 1–30. And you might want to make time to register for Chili's loyalty program before you do – members can get the sandwich, a non-alcoholic beverage and an appetizer for $10. Not too shabby.

Of course, if we were responsible for writing the press release for the new sandwich, we'd probably hang our hat on the fact that Chili's is the only contender that's pouring $5 margaritas alongside its fried chicken. After a few rounds, we might just call an end to the Chicken Sandwich Wars.
