Solo travel can genuinely be life-changing – you get to explore some truly incredible destinations, all while learning how to navigate the world on your own. It’s also only becoming more popular. According to trip booking platform Flash Pack, sales on their solo trips have increased by 100 percent each year.
But which destinations are solo travellers flocking to? Flash Pack has revealed their top 10 most popular solo trips booked for 2024, and top of the list is Japan. The island nation really is an all-rounder – while Flash Pack’s trips are catered to travellers in their 30s and 40s, Japan was also recently named as the fastest-growing destination among Gen Z travellers, too. The country experienced their busiest cherry blossom season ever in 2023 – no wonder the government has introduced all these new overtourism measures.
However, according to Flash Pack co-founder Lee Thompson, South Korea could be overtaking Japan for one of the top spots by the end of next year – which would be rather impressive, given the country doesn’t yet rank in the top 10.
In second place, it’s Argentina, which Flash Pack describes as one of the safest solo travel destinations in Latin America. And third? It’s Egypt, which Flash Pack says is popular ‘despite traditionally being deemed as having a higher risk for solo travellers’.
The overall list is very Asia-oriented, with absolutely no entries from Europe or North America. Other aspects of the report have revealed that January is the most popular time for bookings, and around 70 percent of solo travellers identify as female. Airbnb has its own ranking of the best destinations for women travellers specifically, FYI.
