🆕 What’s new on Netflix in November 2025

1. Frankenstein (Netflix)

Guillermo del Toro’s childhood passion project is one of the more faithful adaptations of Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 horror novel, but the director imbues his take with his signature phantasmagoric visual flair and deep emotionality. Oscar Isaac goes full ham as the hubristic doctor, while Jacob Elordi brings new layers of rage and sadness to the monster, underscoring the daddy issues passed down from creator to creation. 2. Materialists (HBO Max)

Don’t go into Celine Song’s followup to Past Lives expecting the traditional romcom it was marketed as – it’s more of a dissertation on the genre and its values than a true example of it. Dakota Johnson is a matchmaker who finds herself in a love triangle with a wealthy financier (Pedro Pascal) and her working-class ex (Chris Evans). What a problem to have. Read Time Out’s review.

3. Fantastic Four: First Steps (Disney+)

Saying this is the best Fantastic Four movie isn’t saying much, and it’s probably the lesser of the major superhero movies to come out in 2025. Still, its retro-futuristic 1960s and game cast make it an undeniably fun diversion if you’re a fan of the comics – it also serves as the setup for next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, so it’s an essential study regardless. 4. Sovereign (Hulu)

Based on an actual event, this overlooked thriller stars Nick Offerman as Jerry Kane, a member of the sovereign citizen movement who, in 2010, shot and killed two police officers in West Memphis, Arkansas during a traffic stop. Writer-director Christian Swegal takes a sober view of the events that led to the altercation, with Offerman delivering a powerhouse performance as a right-wing extremist on a path of self-destruction.

5. The Alto Knights (Prime Video)

Barry Levinson does Scorsese cosplay, with the odd gimmick of Robert De Niro playing both the notorious mob boss Frank Costello and his rival, Vito Genovese. (Yes, he’s literally talkin’ to himself.) Is there suddenly a shortage of aging Italian-American men in Hollywood or something? It didn’t do much in theatres, but the concept is bizarre enough to give it a shot if you’re an aficionado of the Cosa Nostra. Read Time Out’s review.
