Sure, everybody wants to visit world-famous cities like London and New York, but they do tend to suffer from overcrowding and a lot of the best restaurants will have queues out the door.

But gorging on good food is so important to a holiday – it’s a literal flavour of the local culture, after all – and that’s why, when a recent study unveiled that 47 percent of people prioritise trying local food on holiday, Airbnb listened.

The holiday rental platform has just released a list of trending, lesser-known foodie hotspots – so let’s take a look.

One of the inclusions was Belo Horizonte, a mountain-surrounded city in southeastern Brazil, which, according to Airbnb, ‘is famous for its flavorful and traditional Minas Gerais dishes, including Feijão Tropeiro, a hearty bean dish, and the beloved Pão de Queijo cheese bread.’

The city is also considered a coffee capital, with a host of third-wave (which refers to the industry shift towards higher quality coffee and sourcing directly from farms) coffeeshops, roasteries and barista schools dotted throughout, and plenty of walking tours exploring them all.

Arakawa City, a less hectic alternative to Tokyo’s Shibuya ward, which sits on the east side of the capital, also made the list. Head to Joyful Minowa for traditional, family run coffeeshops, or turn your hand to some ramen or gyoza-making classes. Sounds fun, eh?
