This new Airbnb filter lets you stay in Europe’s most historic buildings

From castles and abbeys to townhouses, the ‘historical homes’ category lets you browse loads of culturally significant rentals

It’s a unique thrill to find yourself waking up somewhere really historic – like an ancient castle, medieval abbey or manor house. And now, following the Airbnb platform’s big relaunch, it’s really, really easy to find fascinating places to stay.

Thanks to a new search category called ‘historical homes’, you can browse Airbnbs with rich cultural heritage at your leisure. You name it: castles, abbeys, manors – pretty much anything old and brilliant – is at your fingertips. There are 20,000 homes are listed under the category in total, spanning five European countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Currently trending destinations include Stratford-upon-Avon in the UK, Guadalajara in Spain, the German region of Niederbayern and Italy’s Etruscan Coast. And here are a few of the most spectacular rentals, including…
