The new weekday lunch menus cover a variety of local and international dishes, from udon and okonomiyaki to curry and tacos

Here’s a local tip on eating out in Osaka (or Japan in general): lunch is where you’ll get the best deals. Many restaurants, including fine-dining establishments and Michelin-starred eateries, offer affordable lunch sets. These are often simpler versions of their signature menus, making them an easy entry point for first-time diners.
Located in the bustling commercial and shopping district of Umeda, just a short stroll from Osaka Station, Time Out Market Osaka has served as a foodie hub since opening in March last year. The food and cultural market brings together some of Osaka’s top restaurants and emerging chefs, offering a cosmopolitan mix of flavours that reflects the city’s vibrant dining scene.
If you’re looking to enjoy some of Osaka’s and the Kansai region’s signature dishes while getting more value for your budget, make sure to head to Time Out Market Osaka for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11am to 3pm. Even if you’re pushed for time, the market makes a convenient option, too, as many of the lunch sets can be ready within 15 minutes of ordering.
For classic Sanuki udon, renowned Osaka noodle house Passion Udon Sanshu serves up its signature thick, chewy noodles with a side of seasonal rice and green tea from just ¥1,000.
Another Osaka soul food, kushiage (deep-fried skewers) is available as a lunch set at Kushiage001, the market outpost of the Bib Gourmand-rated Kushiage 010 in Sonezakishinchi. The set pairs two daily skewers with chicken nanban (fried chicken with sweet vinegar sauce and tartar sauce), salad, rice, soup and pickles – all for just ¥1,100.
Koala Shokudo, a popular restaurant on the Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, has also opened a secondary location at the market. Its lunch okonomiyaki will only set you back ¥1,500. The Osaka-style savoury pancake is made with Kagoshima black pork and served with rice, miso soup and pickles.
There’s more, of course, with a total of 11 lunch options to choose from. Other highlights include a pasta and panino set for ¥1,540, a rib-eye steak set from ¥1,600, a two-taco plate for ¥1,800, and a Korean samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) set for ¥2,200, among others. Better yet, a selection of these lunch specials is also available on weekends and public holidays.
Time Out Market Osaka is located on level B1 of the Grand Green Osaka South Building. It’s open daily from 11am to 11pm (last orders 10.30pm).
